College vs. Traveling

• SOOOOO, I thought I would ask tumblr because there's a bunch of demographics and lifestyles on this site. I find myself becoming intensely anxious about this upcoming semester of college. I've been feeling very restless and bored with my life as of current and college feels like a slow death for me. To be truthful, there's a lot of world out there for me to see and I don't want to wait anymore because I feel very stuck. My question is, I want to take a semester off from college and go travel. I've already taken a year off and I'm really behind on my degree because of switching majors. For those who have done this, was it a good decision? Did you regret taking the time off? Did you take the time off and just end up sitting around your house sleeping? I can't really afford to travel abroad with my college either so that's not really an option. Thanks!
